What is paediatric tuina?
Paediatric massage or tuina (pronounced twee nah) is a form of therapeutic massage specific for young children. Based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) meridian and Qi flow principles, paediatric tuina works by influencing children’s energetic flow in the same way as acupuncture, but using gentle massage instead of needles.
Paediatric massage tuina’s uniqueness
Paediatric Tuina is a safe manual therapy which does not require medication and has no side effects. It is the most natural way of healing and boosting the immune system. It is gentle, safe, and is easily accepted by young children.
What happens during a session?
The first step is to do a proper assessment and diagnosis. Based on that, massage is applied on specific points of various parts of the body, such as the extremities, the face, the back, and the abdomen. Lotion or baby powder can be used to protect the skin and ease the treatment. Each session is usually 30-40 minutes long, depending on your child’s age, physical body condition, and type of illness. In addition, our registered practitioner will spend time to educate and discuss your child’s treatment. In most cases, the treatment should be given once a day or every other day, and a Chinese herbal formula may be suggested to be combined to provide even better and faster results. Paediatric massage tuina is very effective for infants & children from 6 months to 6 years old.
