Yin and Yang explained

mobile acupuncture vancouver yin yangYou’ve probably seen this image before, the taiji symbol. It represents a balance of Yin and Yang, but this video beautifully conveys its meaning.

Once you understand Yin and Yang, you can ask yourself:

  • Am I experiencing too much or too little Yin or Yang?
  • What can I do to find a better balance of Yin and Yang?

Balance doesn’t mean the Yin Yang ratio always needs to be 50:50. There is an ebb and flow. Masculine energy lends more Yang, wintertime emphasizes Yin, daytime midday is strongly Yang, while sleeping is more Yin. How much Yin and Yang you experience over your day, therefore, depends on the time of the year, the weather, what you are doing, the time of day, and so much more.

But if you are often cold and really sleepy, maybe you need more Yang. Conversely, if you are too frequently hot and agitated, finding ways to bring in more Yin is needed.
